How to Find Michigan Criminal Records

Written by Post on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 in News & Society.

The State of Michigan keeps several different archives of information on criminal records. However, a minor problem is that majority of these sources of Michigan criminal records deal mostly with convictions. Criminal records for Michigan State do not necessarily warrant convictions. Not all criminal records for Michigan result in convictions. And for this reason, databases maintained by the Michigan State Government may not be as comprehensive a source as we would like them to be. Therefore, it is advised that when you conduct a criminal records search, you do not use the state repository as your only source of information. There are also various other sources of Michigan criminal records that are mostly unused. These are the following:

State Police

As stated earlier, the most obvious choice for you to search for Michigan criminal records is the state repository. It is the Michigan State Police that maintains the official database of criminal history record information. Here you can find an archive of all Michigan criminal records of felonies or misdemeanors of a serious nature. The Michigan criminal records housed in the Michigan State Police database are actually fingerprint-based arrest records. By statute, law enforcement agencies and court clerks are required to create fingerprint cards for each record of arrest that they send to the Michigan State Police. If the Michigan criminal records are not accompanied by fingerprint cards, then they will be included in the repository.

Department of Corrections

The Department of Corrections maintains a database of criminal records of everyone who has served time in prison. The Michigan criminal records stored here contain good details about the crime and the database even includes pictures of the criminal. The inclusion of photos are good for minimizing cases of mistaken identities wherein someone who is without a record may appear to have one because of names that are similar. The DOC database only contains criminal records of imprisonment and criminals who have been sentenced to prison do not show up here.

County Clerks of Court

Perhaps the most excellent way to verify whether a Michigan criminal action has been initiated against someone is to check whether there are criminal records of it in the Offices of the County Clerks of Court. Each court case is documented first by the Clerk of Court of the county where the case is to be heard. These documents are based on the information obtained during the arrest incident.

Records of Arrests

Michigan criminal records of arrests at the county jail level are excellent sources, too, but they may not be as readily available as the others. However, there are some private sources that you can contract to legally provide you with these.

Solar Energy – The Future of Generating Energy For The Home

Written by Post on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 in News & Society.

Solar energy for residential houses is nothing new.  It has just been banished to the background in lieu of increasing cost of real estate ; more recent more advanced building materials, design and the limitation of resources.

Since man started building houses, daylight played a major influence in the design.  In fact, even in the more advanced urban planning method of the Ancient Chinese and Greeks, the orientation of the buildings is as much as humanly possible directed towards where it could capture the most sunlight.

The ancients might not be as intellectually complicated then to use slogans as passive solar and thermal mass but when they build, they were building in compact proportion, employing overhangs, producing insulations and building in manners that direct the airflow within the structure and producing well lit, well ventilated spaces using the relative position of the sun to the orientation of their structures.

Lately, as the conventional sources of energy became dearer, homeowners were once more turning to the sun for energy requirements.

Since the 1950’s, harnessing the sun’s rays has been developing and today the solar cell technology has achieved very efficient levels that modern ( supposed green house ) designs apply the sun’s power to provide energy for the home.

While solar energy is free, the device which will convert it to run our appliances isn’t.  To provide solar energy for the home, solar cells called photovoltaic made from semi-conducting materials, are grouped into modules.  These solar panels are mounted on rooftops, yards or open spaces where it can capture the maximum amount of sunlight.

Whenever possible, the panels will be installed facing south to get the most out of the daylight but tracking systems are also used to follow the direction of the sun.  The solar panels collect the energy from the daylight.  The method basically is that when the panels are exposed to daylight, the electrons are separated form the atoms.  This movement of the electrons creates electricity.

To store power, pumps are sometimes used – circulating water in the cells.  The water goes into a storage tank where the power is stored, prepared for use.  Sometimes, the utilization of gravity is used if it will just the same store the heated water in to the tank.

In spite of all of the development in solar energy though, the utilization of this technology isn’t enough to provide power to the whole house.  The best technique so far can only fulfill about eighty percent of a homes power needs.  Using solar energy for the home will still need the employment of the standard power distribution technique.

Powering the houses by solar means will still, for some time be augmented by a local power distribution agency.  To several, this is already a good starting point.  Homeowners that feel the high price of powering their houses through solar power, is justified when put next to the price that is now being paid for traditional electrification technique where horrendous amounts of CO2 are getting dumped into the atmosphere just to generate a pathetic amount of electricity.

However, due partly to the rising costs of energy, the technology for solar energy has been undergoing rapid phases of development.  Experts are confident that within 5 years, powering the home thru the solar method will be made widely available for those who prefer it as its sole energy source.

Our Thirsty World

Written by Post on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 in News & Society.

You are thirsty. You choose a cup and walk over to the kitchen faucet. Turn the spigot and out comes clean, fresh, satisfying water. You probably don’t stop to think how lucky you are, and how millions of people around the world cannot do this simple act.

There is a water crisis in our world; people are dying now. Why do we have this crisis when most of the world is covered with water? Because, amazingly, only about 3% of the world’s water is drinkable. Most of this undrinkable water is from the oceans — it is salt water that is unfit for drinking.

As for the drinkable water, a majority of it has been polluted or contaminated thanks to our industrial waste and large companies refusing to stop dumping waste into normally safe sources of drinking water.

Most of us in the US don’t even notice that all of this is going on in our world because we are bless with abundant pure, clean drinking water. We go to an appointment at this or that office and bottled water is available for us to drink. Often, when we go to a restaurant, a glass of water is the first thing brought to our table. Varieties of bottled waters are even available now in thousands of vending machines.

Water is necessary for humans to live healthily; because of this water crisis, millions are ill or dying, especially people in developing countries, where they are even fighting over water. In this crisis, the highest death rates are suffered by infants and the very old. The number that shocks me most is 4,900 — that is how many babies die every day because of lack of clean drinking water.

Gradually it has become clear that there is an immediate need for new water treatment plants, as well as for new ways to treat sewage water. And these are the new water machines for which we have a practical need.

This is a very big order for our world today. Did you know there are treatment plants that can take the salt out of saltwater? And a new generation of machines can make water out of the air.

Many believe the crisis is becoming worse; as a result, there are many new companies working on technology not even dreamed of as yet. The crisis is becoming worse because our underwater sources in some areas are becoming polluted which is making this water crisis one that could soon affect the United States as well as other developed countries.

Around 500 gallons of drinkable water can be produced — right out of the air — by a machine now on the market. Such water machines are not portable, but at least this new technology is being worked on.

Water machines that are small and portable will probably be the wave of the future; they will surely be located in virtually every home, restaurant, office, and business. But now acknowledgment of this crisis is growing. We are optimistic that this realization has not come too late.

Soda Club in Rights Fight in Germany

Written by Post on Saturday, August 15th, 2009 in News & Society.

Are you aware of Soda Club’s legal battle in Germany? It could have major consequences in the bottled-water market.

In 2006, Sodastream (Soda Club) tried to stop a competing enterprise from refilling Soda Club bottles of carbon dioxide (CO2), by claiming that the bottles were their property and did not belong to the customer (per contracts that all customers had to agree to).

This effort failed in Germany, and now the same could happen in other markets as well.

This niche really does need competition, both for the sake of the environment (bottles should be refilled in the store, an operation that takes a mere 20 seconds), and for price, which could easily be cut in half. More info about refilling – and home refilling – of carbon dioxide bottles for home sodamakers here.

Consider that home-made sparkling water already costs a fraction of store-purchased carbonated beverages; nevertheless, things could be a lot better.

Here are the facts from bundeskartellamt in Germany:

Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court confirms immediate enforceability in the Soda-Club case

Soda-Club GmbH, Wiesbaden (“Soda-Club“) may not use its dominant position abusively. Soda-Club had prevented competing suppliers from refilling CO2 cartridges for water carbonating machines by claiming its ownership of the cartridges.

In February 2006 the Bundeskartellamt prohibited this conduct. Soda Club opposed the Bundeskartellamt’s immediately enforceable decision by applying to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court for interim measures. In provisional proceedings the court has now confirmed the Bundeskartellamt’s decision in all material respects. Soda-Club is dominant in the market for refilling CO2 cartridges. Hindering competitors from refilling CO2 cartridges represents an abuse of this dominant position. By this conduct Soda-Club prevents consumers from taking advantage of alternative refilling possibilities. Only the obligation to point out on labels on the company’s own cartridges that it is admissible to have them refilled by competitors was seen by the Higher Regional Court as a disproportionate measure.

Although Soda-Club can still appeal against the Higher Regional Court’s decision to the Federal Supreme Court, the Higher Regional Court’s decision implies that the numerous small and medium-sized bottling plants can now start to compete with Soda-Club and refill all cartridges circulating in the market.

Most people actually already have basic understanding about solar energy. Discussing about solar energy will be near to discuss how the sun can produce alternative energy. In fact, many people have used the sun’s power to warmth water and air for various energy resources. Furthermore, lots of people move to solar energy since it is the cleanest and most viable form of renewable energy.

Solar power captures the sun’s rays by using photovoltaic cell that alters the energy into electricity in order to supply electrical energy. In actual fact, electricity can be converted to the type 120-volt alternating current even though the electricity produced is only 12-volt direct current.

Usually, power converter is used to wielding this energy by most household electrical appliances. In addition, the number appliances that operate on 120-vot direct current are rising these days. They do work with solar energy even though most of them were designed for portable use by being plugged into a vehicles 12-volt outlet.

Business or homes can safe the costs of energy by using the solar energy. Since the present crop of solar cells, the grouping of photovoltaic cells that convert the energy into electricity only operates at about 15-percent efficiency, so many of them are required that it’s costly to set up enough of them to give the power needs.

Return on Investment Provides Low-Cost Electricity

Although the present high initial cost, once a facility has been changed to solar energy they can use far less power from the utility grid. The more power that is converted from the sun the less electricity is required, putting a significant dent in the electric bills. It’s estimated that the initial charge of converting an regular home to solar energy will be recouped in about 15 to 18 years.

During that time, electric bills will be much lower and once the cost has been recovered, the payoff can be implausible. The investment is considered worthwhile with most of the components needed to trigger a home on solar energy having a warranted life of 20 years. Though, not all appliances, such as electric heaters and those that use a large amount of power for operation, may still require more than the sun for their use.

Numerous houses that have moved to solar energy remain connected to the power grid. It usually happens for the times that the sun is not shining strong enough. The power grid is used to power the solar cells as well as to have enough electric to power some of the more energy-hungry devices in the house.

Solar energy will help to obtain alternative energy that last very long. To get more information, you can explore this comprehensive site about solar energy.
