Looking after mine and my familys health has always been very important to me. I’ve managed to avoid being ill, and can’t remember the last time I had a cold or virus of any kind – or certainly not that lasted more than half a day or so. So it came as a bit of a surprise when I started feeling run down and tired all the time, and getting out of bed in the morning was becoming quite a chore. I’d visited the doctor several times and had quite a few blood tests, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with me.

I finally went to see an alternative health therapist one day who intimated that I could do with going on a detox diet, and generally learning about how to detox the body and understand the impact of toxins on my health. It seemed a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about it, so I spent a few weeks doing some research to learn all about it, and try to understand why alternative health therapists say it’s so popular and recommend detox diets and recommend starting with the 7 day detox diet so avidly.

Another thing she suggested to me was to try a foot detox. I have a foot spa two or three times a week now, if I have the time, but as a suitable alternative, the detox foot patch can do just as good a job – but with the patches you don’t get a relaxing foot massage at the same time

Herbal teas and water and plenty of both

Drinking plenty of fluid is absolutely vital while you are following a healthy detox diet because the water will help your body excrete toxins from your system. It also helps to prevent constipation, helps your internal organs function more efficiently, and encourage clear skin. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day (about 2 liters), and more when you exercise.

As a rule of thumb, for every hour that your exercise each day, drink an extra 2 glasses of water. Tap water which has been filtered to remove the chlorine and impurities is the best option. Ideally drink water that is at room temperature. If the thought of drinking that much water is overbearing, try herbal teas as well – preferably loose leaf rather than tea bags. Peppermint, camomile, dandelion root, horsetail and yarrow are especially great in a detox as their hidden ingredients assist in the detox process. Should You Go Organic

When you’re following a detox diet you don’t need to buy everything organic, as organic produce is normally higher priced than non organic equivalents, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.

It’s not a major problem if you can’t get hold of any organic produce. All you need to worry about is eating enough fresh foods regardless of them being organic or not, rather than not get enough of them. However, there are some good reasons for having as much as possible of organic produce on a healthy detox diet.

Artificial fertilizers and pesticides are banned from production of organic foods, so they have very little or no potentially toxic man made chemicals. Organic farming is a hotly debated and controversial topic because there is growing evidence that the ‘cocktail’ effect of man made fertilizers and pesticides are linked to some of the serious health conditions of today.

Organic foods are subject to a lot less processing. Ultimately this means organic foods not genetically modified and are free from hydrogenated fats and artificial additives. And you may notice that organic foods also taste better and have much deeper flavors.
